About Us

The Skagit Valley Detachment #1043, Marine Corps League was presented its charter in May of 2000. This was after nearly 2 years of work on many Marines who wished to have a League Detachment here in Skagit County. The original charter was signed by nearly 40 new members.

Since that time the Detachment has grown to nearly 150 members, ranging in age from 95 years old to 19/20 years old. Among these members are those who have participated in many of the historical events of the United States Marine Corps.
Notably; China Marines, Pearl Harbor, Guadalcanal, Tawara, Saipin, Iwo Jima, Okinawa, Recapture of Wake Island, Frozen Chosin, Inchon Landing, the Cold War, Vietnam, Beirut, 1st Gulf War, Somalia, and the current Gulf war. All of these Marines have one thing in common; their purpose in the pursuit of preserving the traditions and interests of the Marine Corps; bonding together those who have served and those who are serving, to render assistance to all Marines and former Marines as well as their families.

The Skagit Valley Detachment is heavily involved in the local Community that we are part of. We sponsor two Local Community Organizations (LCO) of the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation (Skagit County and Whatcom County) providing a gift of hope for those children of the less fortunate; We are a sponsor of the Skagit County Boys and Girls Clubs, assisting in their events; We present a Flag that has flown over the US Capital in honor of those Boy Scouts that have attained the level of Eagle Scout; We provide Scholarships to those deserving in the community; We assist in the Veterans Assistance program of the county: We have a Marine Corps League Auxiliary comprised of spouses, mothers and distaff member of Marines and former Marines; Several of our members belong to the Military Order of the Devil Dogs (MODD) the fun and honor society; an Honor Guard for parades and funerals.

In the years since 2000 we have become a force in the Community and are well known and respected. Many in the Community have realized that if they want something done all they need to do is call the Marines.
